Thickness & Certification
Film thickness should be selected according to the bag dimensions, intended carrying load, handle structure, material formulation and retail application.
ORIZON can manufacture different thicknesses according to project requirements, but manufacturing capability should not be interpreted as certification scope.
For example, ORIZON’s current TÜV AUSTRIA certificates specify maximum nominal thickness limits of:
- OK compost INDUSTRIAL: up to 78 μm
- OK compost HOME: up to 63 μm
A bag manufactured outside the applicable certificate thickness limit should not be represented as covered by that certificate.
Certification applicability must be confirmed against the applicable current certificate, product classification and final finished-product specification.
Carrying Load
A fixed carrying-capacity claim should not be based on bag thickness alone.
Load performance may vary according to:
- bag width and length;
- film thickness;
- material formulation;
- die-cut handle dimensions;
- distance between the handle opening and top edge;
- product shape;
- load distribution; and
- actual carrying conditions.
For load-sensitive retail applications, sample testing with the intended products is recommended before mass production.

The current OK compost INDUSTRIAL certificate has a maximum nominal thickness of 78 μm, while the current OK compost HOME certificate has a maximum nominal thickness of 63 μm.
A specific die-cut shopping bag must still be reviewed against the applicable certificate conditions, product classification and final finished-product specification.

- film colour;
- printing and ink;
- additives;
- handle structure; and
- final finished-product configuration.
Certification or conformity marks should only be used where the applicable certification scope and mark-use authorization requirements have been confirmed.
