Custom Compostable Bags to Your Specifications
Custom sizes, thicknesses, bag structures, colors, roll formats and packaging for B2B buyers.
- Custom Size
- Custom Thickness
- Bag Structure
- Film Color
- Roll & Core
- Packaging
This manufacturing model is designed for long-term, repeat orders. It is not intended for consumer purchases or small trial quantities.
ORIZON supports specification-based production for distributors, importers, brands, retailers and other B2B buyers. Bag dimensions, thickness, construction, film color, roll configuration, core size, perforation and packing format can all be reviewed according to the intended application.
Whether you are developing a produce bag for a supermarket dispenser, a dog waste bag for retail, a bin liner for food waste collection or a mailer for e-commerce, the specification should be built around how the bag will be filled, carried, dispensed and packed.
What Can You Customize on Compostable Bags?
A custom bag is more than a different size or printed logo.
Dimensions, film thickness, seal structure, roll diameter and packaging can affect how the finished bag performs in actual use. For this reason, we review the complete specification before production.
| Specification | Custom Options |
|---|---|
| Bag Size | Custom width & length |
| Thickness | By application & load |
| Bag Style | Flat, gusseted, T-shirt, die-cut |
| Bottom Seal | Flat seal / star seal |
| Side Gusset | Custom |
| Handle | None / T-shirt / die-cut |
| Film Color | Natural / black / green / custom |
| Film Appearance | Clear / translucent / opaque |
| Bags per Roll | Custom |
| Roll Width | Custom |
| Core Diameter | Standard / custom |
| Core Width | Custom |
| Perforation | Custom tear-off |
| Folding | Roll / folded / stacked |
| Roll Label | Standard / custom |
| Packaging | Bulk / retail box / custom |
| Master Carton | Custom size & quantity |
| Pallet Packing | Export configuration |
The best specification depends on the product application. A produce bag, dog waste bag, bin liner and shopping bag may use very different combinations of thickness, sealing, roll format and packing.
Custom Bag Construction Options
Bag construction affects capacity, leak resistance, dispensing, appearance and production efficiency.
The correct structure should therefore be selected before dimensions and thickness are finalized.
Flat-Top Flat-Bottom Bags
A simple open-top bag with a straight bottom seal.
This format can be used for selected waste bags, pet waste bags, packaging bags and general applications where a simple bag structure is preferred.
Key variables include:
- bag width and length
- film thickness
- bottom seal
- roll or loose packing
- perforation
- film color
Flat-Top Star-Seal Bags
Star-seal construction gathers the film at the bottom to distribute the load and reduce the number of straight seal points at the base.
It is commonly considered for bin liners, garbage bags, food waste bags and selected pet waste bags.
The structure can be reviewed according to bag capacity, thickness, roll format and intended load.
T-Shirt Handle Bags
T-shirt bags use integrated handles and side gussets, making them suitable for retail, shopping, produce and waste-handling applications.
Important specification points include:
- finished bag width
- side gusset depth
- bag length
- handle dimensions
- thickness
- bottom seal
- printing area
For gusseted bags, the finished nominal width should not be confused with the total unfolded film width.
T-Shirt Star-Seal Bags
This structure combines handles with a gathered star-seal bottom.
It may be considered where buyers need both carrying handles and a bottom structure designed for waste or pet-related applications.
Dimensions should be reviewed as a complete bag structure rather than as width × length alone.
Side-Gusset Bags
Side gussets add expandable capacity without increasing the visible flat width of the bag.
They are commonly used where the bag must open wider during filling or fit a defined container or dispensing system.
Gusset dimensions are therefore an important part of the quotation and production specification.
Die-Cut Handle Bags
Die-cut handle bags provide a cleaner retail appearance than traditional T-shirt bags.
Projects can be developed around bag width, length, handle position, reinforcement requirements, film color and printing.
Custom Compostable Bag Sizes & Dimensions
There is no single “standard” custom size that works for every application.
The correct dimensions depend on what the bag must fit, how it will be sealed, how much material it must hold and how it will be packed.
For a simple flat bag, the main dimensions may only be:
Width × Length
For more complex structures, the specification may include:
Width + Gusset × Length
or additional dimensions for:
- flap
- adhesive area
- handles
- header
- side gussets
- bottom folds
- seal allowance
Why Finished Dimensions Matter
Two bags with the same nominal width can behave very differently if one has a side gusset and the other does not.
Likewise, a T-shirt bag cannot be evaluated only by the central body width because the gussets and handle structure are also part of the finished film configuration.
For custom projects, we recommend providing either:
- a dimension drawing
- an existing reference bag
- a physical sample
- photos with measurements
- the container or dispenser dimensions
If you are unsure how to measure an existing bag, send us the bag structure and application first. We can review which measurements are needed before quotation.
Custom Film Thickness
Thickness should be selected according to performance requirements rather than simply choosing the thickest available film.
A thicker bag normally uses more material and changes roll weight, roll diameter and cost. A thinner bag may reduce material use but must still provide suitable strength for the intended application.
When recommending or reviewing thickness, we consider:
- finished bag dimensions
- expected contents
- bag capacity
- puncture risk
- required hand feel
- seal structure
- roll diameter
- bags per roll
- dispenser limitations
- target cost
- intended reuse or single-use pattern
| Application | Main Thickness Considerations |
| Produce bags | Film weight, clarity, roll diameter and easy dispensing |
| Dog waste bags | Hand feel, puncture resistance, opacity and roll size |
| Kitchen caddy liners | Wet waste, seal strength and bin fit |
| Medium bin liners | Load, dimensions and bottom structure |
| Garbage bags | Capacity, puncture resistance and sealing |
| Shopping bags | Handle strength and carrying load |
| Mailer bags | Puncture resistance, privacy and shipping handling |
| Garment bags | Clarity, softness, garment protection and packing |
These are application considerations rather than fixed thickness rules. Final thickness should be confirmed against the actual bag specification.
Custom Film Colors
Compostable bags can be developed in different film colors according to the application, brand requirements and order quantity.
Common options include:
Natural
Black
Green
Semi-transparent colors
Custom color references
For projects requiring a controlled brand color, a Pantone reference can be used as a starting point for color matching.
Color Is Not Only a Visual Decision
Film formulation, thickness and masterbatch loading can influence:
- opacity
- transparency
- final shade
- surface appearance
- printing contrast
For this reason, the same Pantone reference may appear different on compostable film than it does on paper, coated board or a digital screen.
Where color accuracy is important, color expectations should be confirmed before mass production.
Custom color additives must also be reviewed against the intended certification and product specification.
Custom Roll, Core & Perforation Options
Bags per Roll
The number of bags per roll can be adjusted according to:
- retail pack format
- roll diameter
- bag dimensions
- film thickness
- dispenser size
- shipping efficiency
For example, increasing the number of bags per roll may increase the finished roll diameter and affect dispenser compatibility.
Core Diameter
Core dimensions should be confirmed where rolls are used with an existing dispenser or fixture.
Important measurements can include:
Core ID
Core OD
Core width
Wall thickness
A small difference in core dimensions can prevent an otherwise correct roll from fitting the buyer’s dispenser.
Coreless Rolls
Coreless configurations may be considered for suitable bag formats and packing systems.
Feasibility depends on roll construction, product requirements and production configuration.
Perforation
Perforation determines how easily one bag separates from the next.
The tear should be easy enough for normal dispensing while remaining stable during winding, transport and use.
For projects using existing dispensers or retail boxes, we recommend providing a reference roll or dispenser dimensions.
Custom Packing Configurations
The same bag can be packed in very different ways depending on whether it is intended for wholesale distribution, institutional use or retail sale.
Custom packing options may include:
Bulk Carton Packing
Suitable for distributors, institutional buyers and products that do not require individual retail packs.
The number of bags, rolls or packs per carton can be developed around handling, carton weight and logistics requirements.
Roll Packing
Individual rolls can be packed directly into master cartons or grouped into intermediate packs.
Roll quantity should be selected together with bag thickness and finished roll diameter.
Standard Roll Labels
A standard identification label may be used for projects that do not require full retail branding.
Custom Secondary Packaging
Projects requiring branded labels, retail boxes, barcode/SKU systems or consumer-facing packaging should be developed through our dedicated Private Label Packaging program.
Master Cartons
Master carton configuration can include:
- carton quantity
- carton dimensions
- gross weight target
- shipping marks
- SKU identification
- handling information
Pallet Packing
Pallet dimensions and stacking arrangements can be developed according to carton size, gross weight, container loading and destination requirements.
Custom Compostable Bags by Application
Different applications require different combinations of size, thickness, structure and packing.
Our custom production capabilities cover multiple compostable bag categories.
Custom Compostable Bin Liners
Develop bin liners according to bin capacity, bag dimensions, thickness, seal structure, bags per roll and carton packing.
Common projects include kitchen caddy liners, food waste liners, office bin liners and larger waste bags.
Custom Dog Poop Bags
Customize dog waste bags by size, thickness, color, roll quantity, perforation and bag structure.
Projects may use flat-bottom, star-seal, handle or other suitable formats according to brand and market requirements.
Custom Compostable Produce Bags
Produce bag specifications can include width, length, thickness, transparency, roll quantity, core dimensions, perforation and dispenser compatibility.
For supermarket programs, roll and dispenser dimensions should be confirmed together.
Custom Compostable Shopping Bags
Shopping bags can be developed with T-shirt handles, die-cut handles or other applicable structures.
Important variables include bag width, gusset, length, thickness, carrying requirement, film color and packing.
Custom Compostable Mailers
Mailer projects can include custom size, film thickness, opacity, adhesive strip configuration and packing.
Where a return function is required, dual-seal structures can also be reviewed.
Custom Compostable Garment Bags
Garment bags can be developed around apparel dimensions, film transparency, thickness, flap, adhesive closure, ventilation and bulk packing requirements.
Add Logo or Artwork to Your Custom Bags
Printing is available for suitable custom production projects, but printing should be treated as a separate technical specification rather than simply added after the bag has been developed.
Artwork review may include:
- logo size and position
- printing coverage
- number of colors
- Pantone references
- repeat distance
- plate requirements
- ink considerations
- certification implications
For detailed information about artwork, colors and printing capability, see our dedicated Custom Printing page.
Need Retail-Ready Private Label Packaging?
If your project requires a finished branded product rather than only a customized bag, additional packaging elements can be developed separately.
These may include:
- branded roll labels
- retail boxes
- product information panels
- barcode or SKU labels
- master carton identification
- retail-ready packing formats
Private label projects require coordination between the bag specification and the secondary packaging specification.
For complete details, visit our Private Label Packaging page.
Need Full OEM Manufacturing Support?
Custom bag production focuses on what can be changed in the physical product specification.
If you require a complete OEM program covering specification development, sampling, artwork coordination, production planning, quality control and repeat bulk supply, visit our OEM manufacturing page.
Custom Specifications and Compostability Certification
Changing a bag specification can affect more than dimensions and appearance.
Thickness, material formulation, colorants, additives and printing may need to be reviewed against the certification scope intended for the final product.
Depending on the destination market and project, relevant standards or certification programs may include:
- EN 13432
- ASTM D6400 / BPI
- TÜV OK Compost
- INDUSTRIAL
- TÜV OK Compost HOME
- AS 4736
- AS 5810
A certification held for one material or product configuration should not automatically be assumed to cover every custom combination.
For projects that require certification claims on the finished bag or retail packaging, confirm the final specification and intended market before artwork approval and mass production.

We can then identify which technical details still need to be confirmed.
MOQ and Production Planning for Custom Bags
Custom compostable bags are manufactured for bulk B2B orders.
Our standard production MOQ typically starts from approximately 500 kg per specification, although the actual requirement depends on the bag dimensions, thickness, color, structure, printing and packing configuration.
Different bag sizes, colors or designs may require separate production quantities.
For projects involving several SKUs, send the quantity required for each specification so we can review the most practical production arrangement.
Lead time also depends on the final specification and whether the project requires custom color, printing, labels, retail boxes or other packaging materials.
For detailed purchasing information, see our MOQ & Lead Time guidelines.
Custom Compostable Bags FAQ
Yes. Width, length, gusset and other applicable dimensions can be developed according to the bag structure and production feasibility.
For more complex bag formats, we recommend providing a drawing or physical reference sample rather than only a width × length measurement.
Thickness is selected according to the bag size, intended contents, required strength, roll configuration and application.
There is no single thickness that is best for every bag.
A produce bag and a heavy garbage bag, for example, require very different performance characteristics.
Pantone references can be used as a color target for suitable production orders.
Because compostable film differs from coated paper and digital displays, the final appearance can vary according to film thickness, opacity and masterbatch loading.
Where color is critical, expectations should be reviewed before mass production.
Yes.
Bags per roll can be customized according to retail format, roll diameter and dispenser requirements.
However, bag size and film thickness directly affect the finished roll diameter, so these parameters should be reviewed together.
Yes.
Core ID, width and other dimensions can be reviewed for projects that need to fit an existing dispenser or retail system.
We recommend providing actual dispenser dimensions or a reference core where compatibility is important.
Star-seal structures are available for suitable bag types.
The finished structure, dimensions, film thickness and intended application should be reviewed before confirming production feasibility.
It can affect the applicability of a particular certification or claim.
The final material formulation, thickness, additives, masterbatch and printing should be reviewed against the relevant certification scope before production.
Yes.
Side gussets and other applicable expandable structures can be developed according to the finished bag design.
The gusset should be included in the complete dimensional specification because it affects film width and bag capacity.
Yes, printing is available for qualified production projects.
Because printing has its own artwork, plate, color and certification considerations, detailed printing information is covered on our Custom Printing Capabilities page.
Our standard custom production MOQ typically starts from approximately 500 kg per specification.
The actual MOQ depends on the size, thickness, color, bag construction, printing and packaging requirements.
Existing samples can be provided for suitable B2B projects to help evaluate film feel, thickness, sealing, structure and general product quality.
If a fully customized sample is required, the sampling method depends on the requested size, color, printing and packaging.
The most useful information is the bag type, dimensions, thickness, quantity, color, roll or pack configuration, printing requirement, packaging and destination market.
If the specification is incomplete, send us an existing bag, photo or drawing and we can identify the missing technical details.
